Why Coastal Cowgirl has reached its limit
Coastal Cowgirl was a fantastic aesthetic for making western style more mainstream in Europe and worldwide: accessible, photogenic, easy to build. But precisely because it was so easy to replicate, it became ubiquitous. Fast fashion brands industrialized it, the same straw cowboy hat and beige cowboy boots multiplied, and the aesthetic lost its distinctiveness.

Bubblegum Western: western style without the self-consciousness
Bubblegum Western is the maximalist answer to Coastal’s restraint. Where Coastal was beige and understated, Bubblegum is fuchsia pink and unapologetic. Where Coastal aimed for naturalness, Bubblegum embraces kitsch and camp.
The signature signals of Bubblegum Western in 2026: hot pink or bubblegum-pink cowboy boots, a pearly white Stetson, pink denim shorts or a mini skirt, a white crochet top with colorful details, and plastic jewelry or pink and clear rhinestones. The reference is clearly post-Barbie: it’s not authentic western, it’s a dream western, a modern-day fairytale.
On Pinterest, “bubblegum western” and “cowgirl pink” boards grew by more than 300% in 2024. On TikTok, videos under these tags regularly rack up millions of views. The aesthetic is young, joyful, and deeply rooted in Gen Z’s culture of unapologetic hyperfemininity.
How to wear it without looking like you’re in costume: the same rule applies as with any maximalist look. Anchor it with one strong signature piece (the pink boots), surrounded by much more understated items (light denim, white, beige). A tight color palette is your best friend.
Countrycore: re-enchanted authenticity
Countrycore is subtler and deeper than Bubblegum. It doesn’t chase immediate color impact, but a kind of romanticized authenticity: the ranch as you imagine it in period films, the prairie as you dream it, the West as an idealized way of life.
Countrycore pieces: smocked or ruffled dresses in gingham or wildflower prints, worn brown or cognac cowboy boots, a wide-brim felt cowboy hat, flannel work shirts, vintage high-waisted jeans. The palette is natural: ochre, rust, burgundy, sage green, cream. Everything evokes working the land, wild landscapes, and a simple, beautiful life.
Countrycore is the “cottagecore of the Far West.” It shares cottagecore’s romanticizing of rural life, but transposes it to American landscapes rather than English ones. In Europe, it resonates especially well because it taps into a universal imagination of nature and authenticity that goes beyond cultural borders.
TikTok and Pinterest references to follow
On Pinterest, searches to use for Bubblegum Western inspiration: “pink cowgirl aesthetic”, “bubblegum cowgirl tenue”, “hot pink boots look”, “pink western aesthetic 2026”. For Countrycore: “countrycore aesthetic”, “cottage western”, “prairie western look”, “country girl aesthetic rustic”.
On TikTok, the most popular styles. The creators to follow are often American, but their looks adapt perfectly to a European context with a few piece swaps.
The pieces both aesthetics have in common
Despite their apparent differences, Bubblegum Western and Countrycore share several foundations: cowboy boots are essential in both (pink in the first, brown in the second), the cowboy hat plays a central role, the western belt is present, and both aesthetics celebrate a certain accessory exuberance.
This shared base means that if you invest in a great pair of cowboy boots and a quality cowboy hat, you can move between the two depending on your mood and the occasion.
